It doesn’t take a bag full of precious metals to bribe your way onto The Old Works golf course in Anaconda, and for that reason alone, this par 72 wonder is worth its weight in gold. And speaking of gold, I had the chance to play the course last fall as the colors were just beginning to turn. I plan to head back at least once or twice this summer, and for good reason. Before sampling the course, I was introduced to a practice facility like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Included are separate putting and chipping/ bunker practice greens, along with a 40,000 square-foot bentgrass tee area where players have an option of five target greens. (I’m told that an additional separate tee is available for both private and group lessons.) There’s also a curious feature called the Little Bear Course: three practice holes to allow players the opportunity to experience actual on course conditions in a playing environment. For more information on this affordable adventure and on-site history lesson, contact the course at 406-563-5989 or log onto the official Old Works Web site at www.oldworks.org. Rates starting at $125 Call 406-563-5989 or book your time online at www.oldworks.org.
