Knowing that our MWG managing editor is an Idaho alum, we’ve been quick to poke fun whenever the opportunity presents itself, usually out on the golf course.

But here’s a fun fact he made a point to share with us: Sure, Vandals may score in the middle of the pack when it comes to some academic disciplines (or so we’ve been told), but for student athletes, the numbers are quite impressive.

Check out this update from the school’s athletic department regarding the Big Sky Conference 2015 Spring All-Academic teams:

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.

A total of 31 Idaho student-athletes earned All-Academic honors. Women's outdoor track & field led Idaho’s honorees with 14. Women's golf  totaled five while men's outdoor track & field followed with four along with women's golf. Men's tennis totaled three and the women's tennis squad featured two honorees. Men's golf rounded out the list for Idaho with three student-athletes gaining recognition.

In all, over 500 student-athletes earned All-Academic honors. Here are the results from the sport that we already know caters to first-rate thinkers:
